The bow has been the weapon of choice in the UK for hundreds of years, key to both hunting and war, it kept England free of invaders and with filled stomachs through the middle ages until modern times.
Archery today makes use of modern materials, but the methods and skills required to make an accurate shot are still the same. A good archer needs concentration to hold the bow steady under the strain of the draw and the skill to take account of gravity and wind. Hunters in America regularly report using these weapons to fire an arrow right through an adult bear; these are serious weapons.
